SKI RUNS

LIGHTING FOR SKI RUNS DIFFERS FROM OTHER SPORTS. SNOW GREATLY REFLECTS LIGHT AND SKI RUNS REQUIRE POWERFUL FLOODLIGHTS THAT CAN BE INSTALLED ON VERY HIGH POLES.

THE CHOICE AND NUMBER OF FLOODLIGHTS ARE CAREFULLY STUDIED TO PROVIDE THE VISUAL COMFORT YOU NEED.

Lighting a Ski Run :
Several factors must be considered when lighting a ski run:

  • pole height
  • floodlight power
  • colour temperature
  • floodlight tilt
  • level of competition
  • light pollution
  • reflection of light on snow

Feel free to contact our team for any ski run lighting project. They will be happy to advise you.

Floodlights for ski runs are very powerful as they are installed at least 10m high:

Illuminance levels of a Ski Run :

There are no specific requirements for ski run lighting. However, a low average illuminance level of around 20 Lux is recommended. As snow greatly reflects light, the low illuminance will be increased to achieve optimum lighting while saving energy.
Furthermore, ski runs are located in natural environments that are home to wildlife. The floodlights must not disturb the fauna and flora, hence the low level of lighting.

Layout of luminaires on a Ski Run :

Based on our experience, the lighting fixtures are best installed on poles approximately 10m high, along one edge of the run. Poles on either side are not necessary, and a single pole per section of run provides sufficient lighting.

Narrow optics will be chosen to focus the light on the run and avoid casting light on mountain wildlife habitats which can be stressful for animals.
