Lighting a Skating Rink :

For skating rink lighting, we follow the guidelines of the French Ice Hockey Federation. There are 5 categories of rink with very specific lighting requirements. Categories A and B for International and Elite levels, categories C and D for the National level and category E for the Regional level.

Categories A and B: 1,000 Lux with a uniformity factor of ≥ 0.7

Categories C and D: 600 Lux with a uniformity factor of ≥ 0.7

Category E: 400 Lux with a uniformity factor of ≥ 0.7

These standards not only provide an optimal lighting result, they also generate power savings and significantly reduce the maintenance of your lighting installation.

The Speqtris Sport range of fixtures for Skating Rink lighting :

Skating rinks are often equipped with very powerful floodlights in order to cover the large surface area. But power consumption is therefore high. We recommend these powerful LED floodlights

Skating Rink illuminance :

The French Ice Hockey Federation defines guidelines for skating rink lighting according to two levels of play: Competition and Practice : :

Horizontal illuminance uniformity factor :

To achieve optimum uniformity and avoid dark areas as much as possible, a uniformity factor of ≥ 0.7 should be met for each competition category. Experience in ice hockey has shown that a uniformity factor of around 0.9 is preferable.

Lighting point measurement diagram for Ice Hockey :

To ensure compliance with the uniformity factor, the French Ice Hockey Federation has provided a diagram of the different illuminance measurement points :

Technical specifications are a document necessary for any public procurement contract. They define the buyer’s requirements. For skating rink lighting, illuminance standards must be met to ensure that each lighted rink is compliant.

Illuminance levels :

Competition: 1,000 Lux

Practice: 500 Lux

General public – Leisure: 400 Lux

Recommended add-ons :

Variable light level sensor
DMX lighting effects

Skating Rink VariBOX :

    • 3 light levels for different skating rink uses (e.g. Competition / Practice / General Public)
