Lighting a Pétanque Court:

For pétanque courts, we most often recommend floodlights with a wide angle of diffusion to evenly distribute light over the whole court and avoid dark areas. The lighting should not hinder play and should be installed to avoid all glare from the floodlights. The French Federation of Pétanque and Jeu Provençal defines several levels:

  • International / National: Class A
  • Regional / County: Classes B and C
  • Local: Class D

We integrate the specific lighting standards governing each class to offer you the very best lighting solution.

Pétanque Court lighting :

Lighting for pétanque courts is recommended by the French Federation of Pétanque and Jeu Provençal (FFPJP) and varies with the type and category of court :

Horizontal illuminance uniformity factor :

In line with the uniformity factors recommended by the FFPJP, a factor of ≥ 0.7 will be applied for categories A, B and C and of ≥ 0.5 for category D. The closer the uniformity factor is to 1.0, the more evenly the light is distributed across the court.

Dimensions of a Pétanque Court :

A pétanque court has several lanes side by side. To facilitate access to the lanes for players, umpires, officials and people with reduced mobility, it is important to allow for a 1.5m corridor down the middle of the court as shown below :

Technical specifications are a document necessary for any public procurement contract. They define the buyer’s requirements. For Pétanque court lighting, illuminance standards must be met to ensure that each lighted lane is compliant.
