SWIMMING POOL
LIGHTING

Swimming pool lighting involves different areas that need to be illuminated, whether it’s the pools themselves, the decks of the different pools, or sometimes the bleachers for public pools. For any type of aquatic project, Speqtris Sport will assist and advise you in order to find the best lighting solution !

Why install LED floodlights?

Many sports facilities are still lit with older-generation metal halide floodlights. These fixtures consume a lot of energy and reach their maximum efficiency after a few minutes, which can make playing unpleasant or even impossible during this warm-up period.

With LED floodlights, the energy consumption is approximately half that of other lights, and their technology allows them to be effective from the moment they are switched on.

To learn everything about pool lighting, you can consult our sports lighting guide !

Standards to follow for Pool Lighting

To properly illuminate your pool, you must follow the FINa’s guidelines in addition to the general lighting standard NF EN 12193. Compliance with these standards will ensure optimal visual comfort for both athletes and lifeguards.

We will adapt to your needs and desires while respecting the standards recommended by FINa, consulting with our specialized design office to offer you the best possible lighting solution based on the classification of your pool complex.

Our bright recommendation

Satis, the projector dedicated to aquatic environments

The Satis range of LED projectors is the one that best suits corrosive environments, such as swimming pools or skating rinks, due to its high resistance to humidity and in particular to saline or chlorinated environments.

50W 75W 100W 150W 200W

Why this range of LED lights?

As mentioned above, this floodlight is ideal for resisting humidity thanks to its special paint treatment. It is designed for harsh environments (salt and chlorine), making it the perfect partner for lighting your pool. Furthermore, it is IP65 certified (protection against moisture and dust) and IK10 (protection against impact), confirming its effectiveness in aquatic environments.

With power outputs ranging from 50 to 200W and a luminous efficacy of 150 lm/W, this range will illuminate the entire usable area and effectively replace any type of old floodlight.

To ensure even light distribution, different optics can be installed with several tilt options.

What is the lifespan of this projector?

At Speqtris Sport, the lifespan of a Satis projector is calculated according to the L80 standard, or approximately 76,000 hours.

To maintain the efficiency of your projectors, we recommend cleaning them annually. In a location such as a swimming pool, humidity and possible water splashes can settle on the optics and create a slight accumulation of dust as it dries, which can partially obstruct the light output.

The different lighting levels for a pool

The French Swimming Federation does not standardize pool lighting, but it does recommend certain lighting levels depending on the intended use :

Categories Competition broadcast on television Competition Training
Recommended levels ≈ 1 500 Lux ≥ 600 Lux ≥ 300 Lux

These recommendations will allow for better visibility depending on the level practiced and its media issues in order to adapt the brightness to everyone’s needs and thus achieve energy savings.

Horizontal lighting uniformity factor:

The uniformity factor is not necessarily required for non-Olympic pools. For good uniformity, a uniformity factor ≥ 0.7 should be considered. It is important to ensure that the pool decks are also well lit.

Integrate swimming standards into your CCTP

The CCTP (Special Technical Specifications) is a necessary document for any public procurement contract. It helps determine the buyer’s needs. For swimming pool or aquatic center lighting, lighting recommendations are provided to ensure compliance for each pool to be lit.

According to the recommendations of the French Swimming Federation :

  • The minimum lighting level must not be less than 300 lux (see standard NF EN 12193 Class 2).
  • For FINa, the light intensity above the starting blocks and the ends of turns should ideally not be less than 600 lux (see standard NF EN 12193 Class 1).
  • It is recommended to be able to achieve a light intensity of 1,500 lux, at least during televised competitions.

The uniformity factor is not necessarily required for non-Olympic pools. For good uniformity, a uniformity factor ≥ 0.7 should be used. It is important to ensure that the pool decks are also well lit.
