To help illuminate all your pétanque games, here’s a guide to help you understand more about lighting your pétanque court. Whether indoors or outdoors, we adapt our products to ensure the court is always clearly visible and meets the standards of the French Pétanque and Provencal Games Federation.
LED floodlights are an ideal, cost-effective solution for your petanque courts. Compared to older metal halide floodlights, they consume about half the energy and require no warm-up time to reach optimal performance.
To ensure your boules court complies with FFPJP standards, be sure to consult our guide to sports lighting !
It is essential to carefully choose your LED equipment to ensure lighting that meets the requirements of the French Pétanque and Provencal Federation. This will allow both players and spectators to follow the game clearly, thus optimizing the quality of matches.
The Speqtris Sport team offers its expertise to provide tailor-made solutions, perfectly adapted to your facility, while respecting the lighting criteria defined by the FFPJP. When lighting a pétanque court, it is crucial to clearly identify the game category, as this determines the required brightness level.
All our sports projects are based on the NF EN 12193 standard as well as the FFPJP. It is essential to refer to these documents to ensure quality lighting on each boules court.
The Olympe are the LED spotlights that we provide most often. They will illuminate your boules court, regardless of your installation and its complexity.
Since there are different types of pétanque court, this floodlight will be ideal for adapting to each situation with its power ranging from 100 to 400W and its luminous flux of 160 lm/W.
The floodlight modules can be adjusted to several angles with different diffusion optics to cover the entire area to be illuminated evenly.
With this range of floodlights, you will achieve the level of illumination and uniformity required for your pitch, in accordance with the standards of the French Pétanque and Provencal Games Federation.
At Speqtris Sport, the lifespan of an Olympe spotlight is calculated according to the L70, L80, or L90 standards.
To ensure optimal performance throughout their lifetime, we recommend maintaining your spotlights properly by cleaning their optics from time to time. Dust can accumulate on them over time, which will slightly impede the light transmission.
Lifespan | at 25°C | at 30°C | at 45°C |
L70 | 153 000h | 141 000h | 127 000h |
L80 | 100 000h | 92 000h | 83 000h |
L90 | 50 000h | 46 000h | 41 500h |
For pétanque courts or boules courts, we most often recommend floodlights with a wide beam angle to better distribute light across the entire court and thus avoid any shadows. The lighting must also not disturb users and must be installed so that players are not dazzled by the floodlights.
Pétanque court lighting is recommended by the French Pétanque and Provencal Game Federation (FFPJP) and varies depending on the type and category of the court :
Catégories | A | B | C | D |
Indoor pétanque court | 300 Lux | 200 Lux | 200 Lux | 200 Lux |
Outdoor pétanque court | 200 Lux | 100 Lux | 100 Lux | 50 Lux |
Horizontal lighting uniformity factor :
To comply with the FFPJP uniformity factors, a factor ≥ 0.7 will be applied for categories A, B, and C and a factor ≥ 0.5 for category D. The closer the uniformity factor is to 1.0, the more even the light distribution will be across the runway.
The CCTP (Special Technical Specifications) is a required document for any public procurement. It helps determine the buyer’s needs. For pétanque court lighting, lighting standards must be met to ensure compliance with all lighting requirements for each boules pitch.

Regional / Departmental Level | B / C Classes | 200 lux min | coef 0.7 |
Local Level | D Class | 200 lux min | coef 0.5 |

In the case of a boules court, there are several lanes side by side. To facilitate access to the lanes for players, referees, officials and people with reduced mobility, it is important to provide a 1.5m circulation corridor in the middle of the pétanque court as follows :
For lighting a boules court, whether for pétanque or Provencal games, we require several pieces of information to carry out the most accurate studies possible:
Once this information has been gathered, our design office will determine which floodlights are required, as well as their power, angle of inclination, and optical types.
With over 13 years of field experience and projects, we’ve designed a range of lighting layouts and installations for each sport using our sports guide.
This tool will allow you to quickly find the photometric studies corresponding to your project and define and recommend the appropriate equipment for the desired lighting result.
