Dojo lighting is generally provided by overhead lighting. This is the best way to arrange lighting for sports practiced in dojos, although other arrangements are possible.
Speqtris Sport will find the best layout for your project!
In the evenings, dojos are open for the fighters to practice. Therefore, quality lighting that meets lighting standards is essential to ensure ideal visual comfort.
Installing LED lighting will save energy. Often, older-generation metal halide floodlights are found, which are very energy-intensive and less efficient than LED fixtures. Older floodlights require a warm-up time before they can reach their full potential, which isn’t the case with LED fixtures.
Reducing electricity bills by up to 50% with a lighting upgrade using LED floodlights !
Specially designed for overhead lighting installations, or “shower” lighting installations, as they are positioned above the usable surface, this LED linear light is ideal for dojos and gymnasiums.
LED linear lights are often installed in sports facilities where members don’t need to look up to practice. Combat sports are practiced in dojos, and it’s important to have a clear view of your opponent and therefore to look straight ahead, which will prevent any glare with a zenithal installation of Eros linear lights.
It is available in three versions, one with several lower wattages, for installations with low ceilings, and two with higher wattages for greater heights. Depending on your installation, our design office will recommend the right solution.
These linear lights are particularly effective at covering large areas, thanks to their 120° light diffusion optics, thus eliminating any potential shadows.
At Speqtris Sport, the lifespan of an Eros linear luminaire is calculated according to L80 standards. For the “Small Height” Eros, we observe an average lifespan of 98,000 hours, and for the “High Height” Eros, the operating life is approximately 107,000 hours.
To illuminate a dojo, we recommend spotlights with a zenithal installation, i.e., above the combat zone. We select spotlights adapted to this requirement to optimally illuminate the entire combatant area.
For dojo lighting, we find these three categories, each with specific brightness levels to be achieved :
Categories | International | Competition | Training |
Lighting levels | 750 Lux | 500 Lux | 300 Lux |
Horizontal lighting uniformity factor :
The uniformity factor for dojos is not fixed; we will adhere to a factor ≥ 0.5.
Here is a typical example of the light rendering of zenithal lighting in a dojo :

In green : approximately 300 lux
In yellow : approximately 500 lux
With over 13 years of field experience and projects, we’ve designed a range of lighting layouts and installations for each sport using our sports guide.
